How to Build a Salon Booking App Without Coding
A salon booking app needs five things in version one: services with realistic durations, stylist-specific availability, a 30-second booking flow, automated 24-hour reminders, and client notes. An AI app builder can produce this for roughly $25 to $50 a month against agency quotes of $15,000 to $40,000.
If you run a salon, you already know where the money leaks. Someone rings during a colour service, nobody picks up, they book somewhere else. A client no-shows a two-hour slot you turned other people away for. Your Saturday is a Google Sheet you keep having to check while your hands are covered in dye.
The generic booking platforms solve some of this for £30–80 a month, and they're a reasonable option. But they charge per location, they own your client relationships, and they never quite fit how your salon actually works. Building your own is now genuinely viable.
What a salon booking app actually needs
Most people over-scope this. Version one needs five things:
- Services with realistic durations. A cut is 45 minutes, a full head of highlights is three hours. Getting durations right is most of the value — the whole point is not double-booking a stylist.
- Stylist-specific availability. Clients book people, not salons. If Jess only works Thursday to Saturday, the app has to know.
- A booking screen clients can use in thirty seconds. If it takes longer than a phone call, nobody uses it.
- Automated reminders. This is the single highest-value feature. A reminder 24 hours out measurably reduces no-shows, and every no-show is a slot you can't resell.
- Client notes. Formula used, allergies, how they take their coffee. This is what makes people loyal and it currently lives in a paper diary.
Deliberately leave out of version one: payments, loyalty schemes, product sales, staff payroll. Every one of those adds weeks and none earn their place until booking works.
The prompt to start with
Build a salon booking app for iOS and Android. Clients pick a service from a list where each service has a set duration, then pick a stylist, then see available time slots for the next 14 days based on that stylist's working hours and existing bookings. Booking requires a name, phone number and email. Show a confirmation screen. Include a separate staff view listing today's appointments in order with client notes visible.
That's deliberately detailed. Vague prompts cost you credits in corrections.
What it will cost
- AI builder subscription: $25–50/month while building
- Apple Developer Program: $99/year
- Google Play: $25 one-time
A developer quote for the same thing typically lands between $15,000 and $40,000. See what your specific feature list would cost: the app cost calculator
Be realistic about what's hard
Booking systems are deceptively complex once you get past the basics. Overlapping recurring appointments, a stylist calling in sick, deposits and partial refunds, two clients hitting the same slot at once — that last one in particular is a genuinely difficult problem that AI builders handle poorly.
Ship the simple version, use it for a month, and see whether the hard parts actually matter for your salon before building them.
Which tool
You need a real mobile app here — clients won't bookmark a web page, and reminders need push notifications, which web apps can't deliver reliably.
That rules out Lovable and v0. Realistic options are Rork (easiest if you're not technical), Bolt.new (if you can handle a few terminal commands) or FlutterFlow (most capable, steepest learning curve).
